Situated at Port Blair in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the
Regional Medical Research Centre, a permanent institute of the Indian
Council of Medical Research, conducts research on diseases and health
related topics relevant to Andaman & Nicobar Islands with special
emphasis on the health problems of indigenous primitive tribes.
Leptospirosis is the thrust area of research and the Centre
has been designated as the National Reference Centre for Leptospirosis in
India
and also been desiganted as WHO Colloborative Centre for Diagnosis,
Reference, Research and Training in Leptospiosis.
